Psychoeducational Assessment
Sometimes children work incredibly hard but continue to struggle at school. Others seem bright but have difficulty demonstrating what they know. Some lose confidence, become frustrated, avoid schoolwork, or begin to believe they simply aren’t smart. A psychoeducational assessment helps answer the question “Why?”
Using interviews, standardized assessment tools, questionnaires, and observations, a Registered Psychologist develops a comprehensive understanding of how your child learns. We evaluate cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, executive functioning, memory, processing, and social-emotional functioning to identify both strengths and areas where additional support may be needed. The goal is not simply to determine whether a diagnosis is present. Rather, it is to understand your child’s unique learning profile so that parents, educators, and your child can better understand what is making learning easier or more difficult and how to support long-term success.
A psychoeducational assessment may be appropriate if your child is:
Struggling with reading, writing, spelling, or math
Having difficulty paying attention, staying organized, or completing schoolwork
Working much harder than classmates to achieve similar results
Falling behind academically despite strong effort
Showing uneven academic skills or an unexpected decline in performance
Wondering if they may have ADHD, a learning disability (such as dyslexia), an intellectual disability, or giftedness
Our psychologists provide diagnostic assessments for:
Specific Learning Disorders (including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia)
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Intellectual Developmental Disorder
Giftedness
Following the assessment, families receive a comprehensive written report explaining the results in understandable language, along with individualized recommendations for home and school. When appropriate, assessment findings can support school accommodations, intervention planning, access to funding or services, and a deeper understanding of your child’s unique strengths and needs.
Please note: Psychoeducational assessments are available for children 6 years of age and older and are most appropriate when concerns are impacting learning or school functioning.
Wondering if this is the right assessment? If your child is under 6 years old, your primary concern is autism, or your concerns are primarily behavioural or emotional rather than learning-related, a psychoeducational assessment may not be the best fit. Hi there, I’m Amanda (she/her)! I’m a Registered Psychologist with nearly a decade of experience providing psychological services in schools, and a passion for working with children/youth and their families to ensure that every child not only understands their unique brain but knows that who they are is worth celebrating. I specialize in the identification of learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and other challenges that may be impacting a child’s ability to perform to their potential in school and life. I also offer diagnostic autism assessment services and am deeply passionate about helping families understand their child’s neurotype.
Who I am as a professional is deeply intertwined with who I am as a mother. I am the proud parent of a uniquely perfect child with limb differences, multiple food allergies, and a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder. Since the birth of my son, I have been invited to learn and grow in ways that I never would have otherwise. I was given the humbling experience of seeing “what I do” as a psychologist from the opposite lens… I went from being the “professional” to vulnerably sitting in the “parent chair”. I became an advocate for my own child’s needs in addition to the needs of the children I have the privilege of working with. My experience of motherhood has made me a better psychologist and a better human, and for that I am eternally grateful.
‘Uniquely Me’ is about celebrating neurodiversity and challenging stereotypes about being 'different.' It’s about recognizing that brains come in many forms and that disability stems from a mismatch between individuals and environments—not from the individual themselves. By recognizing this, we can advocate for more inclusive, flexible spaces where all children can thrive and succeed to their potential.

Hello! I'm Katie (she/her) a Registered Psychologist with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. I hold my Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE), which allows me to provide assessment and diagnosis services. I specialize in psychoeducational assessments and identifying learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, ADHD, and other challenges that may hinder a child's ability to learn.
l earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Saskatchewan in 2011, followed by my Master's degree in School and Counselling Psychology in 2014. I became a Registered Psychologist in 2016 after completing my licencing examinations and supervised hours.
The majority of my career has been providing psychological services within schools for children, youth, and their families. It is always a privilege to assist a child with their educational journey and diverse learning needs. I prioritize creating a safe and trusting environment where your child feels seen and valued.
As a mom myself to young children I understand the endless worry and stress that goes along with being a parent. If only each kid came with a manual! Navigating every age and stage can bring challenges and sometimes you have more questions than answers. I am here to help, listen, and collaborate. I hope my psychoeducational assessment can foster further understanding about your child, as well as the ways they can be supported to reach their potential in school and life.
