But first, read below to ensure that a psychoeducational assessment is right for your child!

A psychoeducational assessment is designed to help understand how your child learns and to identify factors that may be affecting their success at school. Through standardized testing and interviews, psychologists evaluate cognitive abilities, academic skills, attention, executive functioning, and social-emotional functioning to better understand a child’s unique learning profile.

A psychoeducational assessment may be appropriate if your child is experiencing:

  • Ongoing reading, writing, spelling, or math difficulties

  • Challenges with attention, focus, organization, or executive functioning

  • Concerns about a possible learning disability (e.g., dyslexia)

  • Questions about ADHD

  • Concerns about intellectual or cognitive development

  • Questions about giftedness or whether your child would benefit from enrichment programming

Psychologists at The Village YXE provide diagnostic assessments for:

  • Specific Learning Disorders (including dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia)

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Intellectual Developmental Disorder

  • Giftedness

Please note:

  • Psychoeducational assessments are available for children 6 years of age and older.

  • These assessments are most appropriate when concerns are impacting your child’s learning or functioning at school.

This is NOT the correct waitlist if:

  • Your child is under 6 years old

  • Your primary concern is autism

  • Your primary concerns involve behaviour, emotional regulation, anxiety, or mental health without significant learning concerns

  • You are seeking counselling or therapy rather than an assessment
